At Berzdorf Lake there’s something going on during every season and all year round there is pure nature: clear water, fresh air, exciting routes by foot or bike, and great views of the landscape. Various events take place on and around the water: in addition to regular dates, there are also larger events where you can participate or watch. These include sporting events such as the 15° Swim’N’Run & Triathlon or sailing regattas, culinary or musical events.
In spring, nature awakens at the lake, everything is green and the sun’s rays are warm. We’re drawn out into the fresh air – so why not get active with routes for walking or cycling around the lake developed by Görlitz-Information? During the breaks in-between, you can stop off at many different places for refreshments which are open in spring.
Insider tip: There’s a road lined with blossoming cherry trees on the western shore of the lake in Jauernick-Buschbach. Or you can take an excursion to the Landeskrone, Görlitz’s local mountain, with its bright yellow rapeseed fields in spring.
At Berzdorf Lake sailing season begins in April and swimming season in May. There’s also a “wedding season”: from spring to fall, people who want to get married say “I do” to each other in the wedding room of the harbor building. Couples can arrange their wedding dates in the maritime wedding room for selected days directly with the Görlitz registry office.
In spring children can have fun at the playgrounds on the northeast beach and at Blaue Lagune, as well as at the “Ranch am See”. Here, everything revolves around ponies and horses living together in two herds with plenty of space to run.

In summer the swimming season is in full swing. The water is at its warmest and adults and children enjoy spending the whole day at Berzdorf Lake. Ice cream parlors and snack bars provide refreshments for guests, including exotic ice cream flavors and cool drinks.
Beach volleyball courts are available at Blaue Lagune and at the peninsula for sports & games on the beach. If you want to get out on the water, you can rent a stand-up paddle board, inflatable boat or an air mattress at Strandbar Görlitz on the northeast beach.
The Europa Chor Akademie provides a musical highlight for the summer solstice: It presents the Görlitz Lake Stage, embedded in the breathtaking backdrop of Lake Berzdorf. This year, in the wonderful sunset on the beach, the choir will take you on an exhilarating journey through the most famous film usic from Hollywood to Görliwood®. The choir will be accompanied and powerfully supported by the German Armed Forces Staff Music Corps.
Popular sailing events in summer include night sailing with illuminated boats at the Blaue Lagune and the sailing show by Deutsch Ossig. SV Schönau-Berzdorf offers sailing training for children and youth on Saturdays during the sailing season, as well as the one-week International Kids Sailing Camp during summer vacations.
On a floating stage, in the breathtaking setting of Lake Berzdorf, the Europa Chor Akademie Görlitz sings "Carmina Burana". The highly respected, international concert choir sings with a large band on the lake stage. Spectators take their seats on the lakeside and listen to the voices against the unique backdrop of the lake.
Even in autumn there can be beautiful swimming days on the water, especially if you can still do stand-up paddling until the end of the season. For those who prefer to watch water sports, don’t miss the autumn regatta of the SV Schönau-Berzdorf.

Enjoy the colorful autumn landscape of the lake with the view from the 24-meter-high bucket-wheel excavator in Hagenwerder and from the Neuberzdorfer Höhe observation tower. During a tour of the bucket wheel excavator, you can also get a better understanding of the history of the lake, which was created from an open pit mine. In the surrounding forests you can pick mushrooms, which you can prepare yourself at home or at the designated barbecue sites directly at the lake.
Take a bicycle trip on the Oder-Neisse cycle path or enjoy the local fish specialties at several ponds in the region during the Lusatian Fish Weeks.
Enjoy a walk around Berzdorf Lake in winter. Discover the diverse wildlife that can be experienced even in winter and enjoy the tranquility of the nearby forest. Listen to the birds or spot the various tracks of the animals of the forest in the snow.
Görlitz-Information employees have tested and prepared a hiking route through the wonderful winter landscape of the Berzdorfer Halden themselves. With enough snow and your own ski-equipment, you can even start off on a cross-country skiing tour.
Learn more about the flora and fauna of the region at the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Görlitz. Among other things, the museum shows its visitors the extraordinary biodiversity of Upper Lusatia. It’s a fun experience, especially for families with children.
When it’s really cold outside, the wellness hotel “Insel der Sinne” offers warmth in its soothing sauna area. Located directly on the beach, hotel guests can relax here with a hot herbal bath or in the Finnish sauna. The fireplace room with a view over the lake and library also provide guests a space to enjoy a leisurely reading break.
