The unique cityscape, the international flair of the German-Polish European City and its tradition as a centre of cloth manufacturing inspire fashion industry as well, which is always in search for unique shooting locations and individual motifs. Unseen backdrops, short distances, flexible local service, reasonable costs of production – the advantages of the city on the Neisse River, which film producers rave about, are attractive for the fashion industry, too. Whether they look for the morbid charm of an old production hall, the special atmosphere of a splendid Wilhelminian villa or the facades of historical buildings from the eras of Gothic, Baroque, Renaissance or Art Nouveau: all this can be found in Görlitz. This variety makes the city a perfect shooting location.
The Euro Fashion Award held in Görlitz shows how to stage innovative fashion in an impressive way. In 2016 and 2018, the international fashion competition for young designers was held imposingly at the Art Nouveau department store and drew the interest of the international fashion scene to Görlitz. The next event is planned for 2020.

The EURO FASHION AWARD is held in the department store of the European City Görlitz/Zgorzelec in the border triangle of Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany every other year. Both the big audience gala and the award show are presented in the Görlitz department store. Since 2016, the Art Nouveau Department Store Görlitz, rich in tradition, has been initiator and organiser of the EURO FASHION AWARD and thus, it continues Görlitz‘ long tradition of being a city of cloth makers and cloth merchants in the Free State of Saxony which is the heart of textile and fashion industry in central Germany. In this way, Görlitz adds another highlight to its varied event calendar, which attracts experts of the fashion industry as well as a young, creative audience and fashion fans to come and visit the European City.
The EURO FASHION AWARD is the only European fashion competition initiated by Germany for aspiring Master’s graduates and young professional designers. As the European Award with the highest prize money for creative and avant-garde collections, it is an opportunity for fashion designers to compete with each other, and it presents an unmistakeable insight into craftsmenship and pattern design. “It is about fashion. It is about creativity and vision. It is about promoting young talent in a very special way”, says Art Director Andrej Baranow. “Fashion is a rather short-term expression of the zeitgeist, a snapshot of a process. At the same time, it encourages and demands determination and perseverance. And that’s exactly what the EURO FASHION AWARD stands for!“ Fashion addresses and establishes identity as a cultural asset and an economic factor. It is a symbol for a positive image transfer that takes place in creative exchange, and for a favourable attitude towards life that is of considerable national and international interest.
