The Reminder
The GDR/Bulgaria/USSR co-production is a historical film biography with superimposed documentary footage to mark the 100th birthday of former Bulgarian Prime Minister Georgi Dimitroff, depicting his life and work.
Story
Georgi Dimitroff gives a speech at a conference of the Communist International in Moscow in 1935 in which he calls on all progressive forces to form a united front. Flashbacks, supplemented by original contemporary documents, show important stages of his life: the farewell to his partner after the defeat of the Bulgarian uprising in 1923 and his exile, life in illegality, his meetings with Ernst Thälmann and other comrades in other countries, the fight against fascism, the preparations for a peace conference in Amsterdam and finally the Reichstag fire trial. As a defendant in the National Socialists' show trial against the alleged Reichstag arsonists, Dimitroff succeeded with rhetorical brilliance in winning a victory against the fascist rulers in Germany and publicly exposing them.
