Frantz

Frantz

In August 2015, the successful French director François Ozon came to Görlitz to produce his film “Frantz“. In this film, encounters at the grave play a central role. The cemetery Nikolaifriedhof in Görlitz provided the perfect setting for these scenes. With its Baroque crypts and tombstones, it creates an almost magical atmosphere, which is beautifully reflected in the film, too.

Story

German-French drama by Francois Ozon. Spring 1919: Anna (Paula Beer), living in a small German town shortly after the First World War, goes to the grave of her fiancé Frantz, who was killed in France, every day. One day, Adrien, (Pierre Niney), a young Frenchman, also takes flowers to Frantz’s grave. The secret of Adrien’s appearance in the town after the German defeat causes unforeseeable reactions.
